The 2009 U. S Paragliding Team consisting of Honza Rejmanek and his assistant Dave Hanning took third place in this year's 2009 Red Bull X-Alps. It was an extraordinary finish for the U.S. Team who got to share the podium with two Swiss legends, Christian Maurer (1st place) and Alex Hofer (2nd place). As Honza told us after the race ended, he couldnt believe he was going to get to stand on the podium next to these legends. Well, Mr Rejmanek, you are now one of these legends yourself! Congratulations to the 2009 U. S. Paragliding Team on your phenomenal finish!!

The World Paragliding Championships ended on Feb 6, 2009. You can relive the action by visiting the team blog for photos, maps and interviews:

This 5th place finish for the U. S. Team is something to be incredibly proud of. It is the highest finish ever for a U. S. Team and we can only hope to improve from here.

U. S. Individual Results:

Matt Beechinor - 20th place
Brad Gunnuscio - 27th place
Eric Reed - 29th place
Kari Castle - 85th place

Matt Beechinor, Brad Gunnuscio and Eric Reed each won one task during this ten day competition. In addition to his first place finish on Day 1 of the comp, Eric Reed also had two top 5 finishes. This is another accomplishment that is unprecedented for U. S. Paragliding Team Pilots and no other team in this event had all their pilots win a day's task in this event.

We are very proud of our team's efforts in this year's incredible World Paragliding Championships. We are also very thankful for all the support that has been shown to us by our sponsors and the paragliding community. Please know that mere words can not express how we feel for the generosity that has been shown to us.

On a sad note, our deepest condolences go out to Swiss pilot Stefan Schmoker's family and friends. Stefan was an amazing pilot and person, and we will miss his spirit and smile.

Support The 2009 U. S. Paragliding Team!

U. S. Paragliding Team, a Nevada Non-Profit Corporation, has been set up under the rules of IRS 501 ( c ) 3 to  help subsidize the expenses of  the U. S. Paragliding Team’s participation in  the World Paragliding Championships and The Red Bull X-Alps Competition, which are held every two years.  The World Paragliding Championships were held in Valle De Bravo, Mexico from January 23 thru February 7, 2009.    http://www.pwmex2009.com/

The Red Bull X-Alps Competition started in Salzburg, Austria and finished in Monacco and ran from July 19 thru July 30, 2009.

These paragliding pilots are amateur in status and compete in these paragliding competitions at their own expense. At the end of the two year period and based on the parameters set by the international paragliding competition sanctioning body FAI/CIVL, each country is allotted a certain amount of paraglider pilots who can compete at the World Paragliding Championships.

The World Paragliding Championships are a two week long event. Besides being mentally and physically demanding, it  also demands a  substantial financial commitment.  We estimate that the actual cost of sending the 2009 U. S. Paragliding Team to the World Paragliding Championship will run approximately $18,000.00. It is  up to us to help lighten the burden for our team and for all U. S. Paragliding  Teams to come. Please show some pride in our team and help our cause by donating to this Non-Profit Corporation.

The Red Bull X-Alps is a 20 day race thru the Alps, where the pilots can only hike and fly. The distance of the race is approximately 850 kilometers. The pilots are allowed one assistant who can offer technical support, a vehicle for shelter and food, but can not have the pilot ride in the vehicle. It is the greatest race on the planet!

It is the purpose of this Non-Profit Corporation to raise funds through donations. All Officers and Directors of this corporation are volunteers. All the money raised through this Non-Profit Corporation will be used exclusively for the benefit of the U. S. Paragliding Team. It is our goal to cover all or most of the expenses of our team, including but not limited to, competition entry fees, airfare, transportation, lodging, food and misc expenses. The funds will be distributed evenly among the team members (as per submitted actual expenses or actual funds available).

Tony Lang, of Landcor Properties, who has sponsored many paraglider pilots and paragliding  events over the years, set up this corporation so he could feel and be a part of the team. By making a donation of any size, you can also feel and be a part of "Our Team"!

As stated by our new Corporation President, Bill Belcourt who was on the 2007 U. S. Paragliding Team "I had the honor of attending the last World Paragliding Championships in Manilla, Australia and it would not have been possible for me without the creation of this Non-Profit Corporation and the unbelievable generosity of the paragliding community. Now it is my turn to give back and help raise money for the new 2009 U. S. Paragliding Team. Please help me spread the word and help us reach "Our" goal."

Donations in any amount are welcome and appreciated.

The Non-Profit corporation is also hoping to generate corporate sponsorship by offering the benefits of tax deductible donations through IRS 501 c 3.

The Board of Directors for the corporation are Bill Belcourt.  They will remain on the Board until the end of 2010.
